1:50 PM CASE STUDY: Removing Harmful Predators In NZ - An Analytics and Visualisation Platform at the Department of Conservation NZ

The Department of Conservation in NZ is partnering with a number of not-for-profit, private and public sector partners to support New Zealand’s agenda and drive for a ‘Predator Free NZ by 2050’’. The partnership includes, amongst others, The Instillery and Amazon Web Services (AWS), as well as a number of important local government and LWI partners. Given the geographical location of NZ, predators i.e. stoats, weasels, ferrets, hedgehogs and others, have long posed a threat to the nation’s biodiversity which is now, in some places, at high risk of extinction.

Through these partnerships, there is a team of dedicated professionals leveraging cloud capabilities to analyse big biodiversity data sets collected and analysed across each and every trap and property in NZ. In this session, gain insight into:

  • Applying algorithms that uses captured big data assets from every property in New Zealand and visualizing it into actionable insights for future investment decisions
  • Developing a roadmap based on current predator control campaigns and programs to target high risk environments
  • Insights into investment decisions and long term commitments to meet the outcomes being sought by Predator Free 2050
  • Pain points around technologies needed to achieve ‘Predator-Free NZ’ by 3050
