The IA Global Market Report 2019 (H1): How to Manage Change so that Automation Sticks
This report marks the 5th in a series of Intelligent Automation reports that SSON has published twice a year to support you – global practitioners trying to figure out how to harness the power and potential of automation software while maintaining strong control and enough foresight to build for the future. Digital transformation is the enterprise buzzword right now, and automation is at the vanguard of making it happen.
Each year, our Global IA Market Reports focus on a key aspect of IA adoption and implementation. 2017 was the year of the ‘what and how’ of IA, and both the H1 and H2 reports elaborated on defining and answering that challenge. In 2018, we considered what’s required to successfully scale automation across the enterprise, defined more than a dozen stall points and offered tips on how to circumvent them. The H1 report was for those just embarking on the automation journey; H2 for those already a few years into it.
This year, it’s all about supporting the transformation through effective change management. Lack of effective change management support, our 2019 survey tells us, is the leading case of automation ‘failure’ (though defining failure might warrant a separate report). A well thought out and adhered to change management plan should be a critical element in your automation strategy. Effective change management drives program success. Conversely, any gaps in change management will cause the program to stall.
